What A Quandary

Very soon Cherry and I will board a plane and travel during the peak of the holiday travel season to Virginia. In Virginia I will see my new grand-daughter for the very first time. I'm very excited about this! Next in line will be my wonderful daughter-in-law and then will be My Pride, my son. Then will come the new vehicle in their lives. More on that later.

My quandary is, we are flying with no checked luggage, carry on only. So, I will not be checking a gun case and going through the TSA procedure. That means I will be traveling ungunned and unknived. Now, I can ship the knives but not the guns. I don't see the need to do a dealer to dealer transfer and all that entails. So, I'm thinking the boy might have to lend me a piece while we're there. Further trips East will have to be TSA chaperoned or made by wheeled vehicle. It's been a long time since I was with out a gun or a knife on me.

On to the new vehicle. I've wanted one for some time now. Son has upstaged me. Look at this monster that is his new daily driver. While we are out there I'll get a better picture. It's a 1969? M35 2.5 ton "Deuce" that's been bobbed. He loves it!

I walked into a gun shop the other day, you know, just to look around, and I spied a Winchester 1897 pump sitting in the used rack. While it had very little original blueing, it was not pitted all to hell and functioned fine. Price? 350 bucks. Most of these gems have been snapped up by the cowboy action shooters so this one was a surprise. I mosey down the line a few steps and lo and behold what do I see? A genuine Colt Mustang! Good condition with a couple of scratches on the front strap but no other damage. The slide pulled back slick and smooth. Price for this beauty? 600 dollars. I thought long and hard about this one. Long and hard. Let's see the Caddi needs work, the truck needs work, the Harley is sitting in pieces, we are still pouring dollars into the new property, my unemployment is coming to an end, I don't have any guns I want to sell or trade so, no little shooter for me. On with the tour, down in the black rifle territory, I found a way cool Ruger SR-22 and next to it, a Smith and Wesson M&P 22. At this time I think rimfire tacticool rifles are da bomb as centerfire ammo is so darned expensive. I spent an hour and a half lookin' and talkin' guns so all in all it was a really good morning.

I made plans with my brother to team up on installing front springs in his Suburban and my truck today. After a earlyish morning, breakfast, news, shower and put the dogs in the kennel. I left. Brother called to ask me to locate a puller type ball joint remover so we didn't damage the balljoints with the tuning fork style separator. NO LUCK. We did get both of them done though. Finally started around noonish and finished around 5:30 pee em. Now I'm beat. All I have to do now as the funds become available is get a front end alignment and a new left front tire.

I don't think I'll be able to put anything in the storage system this week. I blew my wad on some Duracoat materials and a stock for a gun I'm working on. I'm anxious to see how this coating turns out. It's a matte grey and I'm going to sandblast the barrel and action prior to the coating process. I'm thinkin' it'll be sssweeet. I understand the coating isn't fully cured to at least 3 weeks but can be assembled and handled with in 24 hours. Any one out there with any experience using the Duracoat coatings? Leave a comment if you have or know anyone who has used it.

What do you carry? I carry one or more folding knives and a Rock Island Armoury Officers size 1911 .45. The backup is a Taurus PT-22 One spare mag for each but I want a double mag case for the 45. Leave your carry comments in, of course, the comment section.
