Fun Show Report

I spent a few hours wandering the Fun Show this morning. Only I found no fun there today. I carried my custom SKS 'til my arms went numb, I walked and talked and walked some more. I saw nothing really of interest except 1 Draco pistol and they wouldn't trade and quite a few of the Mares Shank style shorty lever guns. The show was down on vendors and down on gun related vendors particularly. In the three hours I was there I saw no sales of toy helicopters, beef jerky, jewelery, toys, clothes and other non-gun items. And I saw only a couple of gun sales. I also saw no individuals that had anything I wanted to trade for. So I brought the SKS home and I'll post it on the local board that went regional, Midwest Gun Trader. For now though, No Sale.

I attended the gun show in Memphis this weekend, same story there. Very few gun vendors, lots of holsters, jerky, clothing and knife vendors but not many sales. I am going to stop going anymore. The prices are outrageous! The vendors make a circuit around here carrying the same old guns with the same old tags. Come on guys, the paper tags on the guns look older than the guns themselves. If you ask for a little better price, they offer $20 off an $800 gun that is way overpriced. They just end up carrying the same gun from show to show until the blue is worn off looking for a sucker!

You're right. I know that political forces drive the prices up but seriously 250 buck for a pitted worn smith#1? 350 dollars for a stock SKS that at one time as a dealer I could buy for 49 dollars?

The fun show in my AO is coming up this weekend. I mainly go to hang out with my friends that I go with. I usually don't buy guns, but just parts and stuff as I can usually find some decent prices on those things. I am planning on getting an upper and lower receiver set so I can start building a 300 blackout pistol. If I can't find what I am looking for at a good price, there is always online shopping.

I don't even have any friends that will go to gun shows anymore. Times are hard every where I guess. After this show I decided to save up my money and just attend the huge Wannemacher show in Tulsa oncea year.

Do you still have the SKS?

"350 dollars for a stock SKS that at one time as a dealer I could buy for 49 dollars?"

SKS prices have risen for a number of reasons:

1) Inflation. You drove to the gun store to buy that $49 Chicom SKS in a $12,000 Camaro burning 93¢/gal premium unleaded.

2) They aren't importing any more. Supply/Demand.

Going market rates on an SKS these days seem to start out around ~$200 for an ugly Chicom and top out at close to five for a nice Russian.

Tam, around KC, a new in the box SKS starts at 300 and tops out at at 350. And I never drove a $12,000 camaro. Hot rodded El Camino's all the way!
